spaying and neutering?

Hello all, I'm not owned by an iguana, but i do have a question. I saw an article in Reptiles magazine regarding spaying of females when problems with laying eggs arises, and I was wondering if the procedure is done for any other reasons? Also, is it possible to neuter a male? I am just interested in any complecations, any changes in the animals "personalities", and all your opinions regarding iguana "fixing". Thanks in advance for your input.
