Diana,

The tip of an iguana's tongue is a darker color
then the rest of the tongue. And that tube you
saw at the back of the tongue, I'm pretty sure
you're describing the iguana's windpipe (though
I can't think of the proper name right now).

The fact that you got to spend so much time looking
in your iguanas mouth might indicate that he was
too hot and/or dehydrated. If the tongue tip and
the rest of the mouth were dramatically different
in color, that's another indication of dehydration.

If you pay attention to the inside of your ig's
mouth, you'll get accustomed to its regular color.
Then, if you ever think the inside of his mouth
is paler than usual, you'll know he may be
dehydrated.
