Today, after a bit of sun in his outdoor cage, my boyfriend and I put Habib in the car so that he could go with us to run some errands. He has gone in the car for drives before, and seems to enjoy it. (Notice: I would never leave him in the car unattended. I made sure to stay in the car with him while my boyfriend went into the bank and into the store.) Anyway, we noticed that he began sticking out his tongue. (Reminding us of a dog that pants when he is hot.) The tip of it was dark red, and the rest, a pale pink. Is this normal?
Also, while looking at his tongue, we noticed that there was a curious tube-like thing on the very back part of his tongue. It looked like something he could squirt water through--it was straw-like and hollow. What is this called, and why do Iguana's have them? We have never noticed it before, since he usually only opens his mouth briefly to eat. But today, we saw a part of Habib we had never seen before. Any ideas as to what this thing is?
Thanks,
Diana
