: Thank you to everyone who posted and emailed me site links for my quest on putting together an iguana care sheet for the care techs at the animal rescue league! It was very much appreciated! Now, I have another task. Our director would like for me to collect information on the "perfect" tank set-up for our adoption area. In other words, the message we want to send to people when they are considering adopting one of our iguanas: This is what you will need for your iguana to be "happy and healthy". (We already have a 55 gallon tank. Now we need the perfect night and day lights, subtrate, hot pad, water source(?) food bowls, limbs to climb on, etc.) I would very much appreciate it if you could help me on this one--be specific on the brand names of everything. You guys are the "experts". THANK YOU!

hey cindy i had my iguana in a 55 gallon tank for daylight i used a zoomed basking spot bulb in a dome ,at night i used a black night bulb for heat the night bulb should be a lower wattage then the day bulb because they need lower temperatures at night. day time basking site should read 95-100 and nightime basking site around 88-90 degrees . make sure you have a stick on thermometer 10-12inches down from the top of the tank under basking light and one on the other end of the cool side of tank as long as youre thermometer is reading temperatures listed above on hot side youre fine . he needs a water bowl . substrate the easiest and cheapest is newspaper . or you can use any substrate for iguanas . a basking branch to climb on . screen cage top to cover tank . also get 2 timers and put youre daylight on one so lights go on and off when youre not home set it for the time the sun comes up and the sun goes down . and the night timer set for the time the sun goes down and the sun comes up the next day . alternatives can be ( i dont want to confuse you) use a zoomed 24 hour ceramic heater keep on constantly day and night for basking and use a 48 inch 5.0 uv iguana flourescent light for day uv and light. (undertank heaters only heat the bottom of tank not the air temperasture in tank) i would use what i listed above . also get a cheap book on iguana care for backup reference you can never no too much . use a reptile vitamin called retivite by zoomed and sprinkle on food 1 time every couple of days read the label!!!!!! feed collard greens mustard greens squash zuccinni stringbeans yams cantaloupe sometimes bannannas ! go to www.herpsupplies.com www.bigappleherp.com www.thatpetplace.co for good reptile supplies mike
