My wife and I take in all sorts of animals all the time. Not as many standard pets, but some animals that the local kids bring by because they know we enjoy animals of all sorts. Right now we have 2 garter snakes, and we just released a robin that was abandoned after jumping out of it's nest in one of our trees.
As it was it hopped around the yard for two days before we decided mom wasn't comng back(cats in the neighborhood most likely), and ate from spilled bird seed at the feeder. We took it in and fed it round worms, grub worms, crickets and anything else for two weeks until it was hopping around the cage really well and when we took it outside and put it on the lawn it hopped around a bit until it felt secure and took off in a slightly wobbly flight to wherever.
Both garter snakes we have were attacked by cats or somehting and the kids brought them to us. Forunatly both of them are doing fine and one will be let go this weekend at the animal presever down the road.

Good luck with your bird, I am glad there are caring people out there that take care of other wild animals.

Matt
