: igs have salmonella, period ... it is *not* something that they need to be "cured of" ... the comparison to it being like e. coli in human guts is a good one!! salmonella will *not* harm your ig!!! it *is* transferrable to humans and that's why everyone stresses good hand-washing and not putting your ig's used plates in the kitchen sink, etc. ... but salmonella is *not* like parasites that need to be gotten rid of!!! and if your vet doesn't know this, i'd strongly recommend finding a vet who actually knows something about igs! 3 weeks of a strong antibiotic like Baytril *is* going to mess up your ig's gut *MORE* than any salmonella will!!! and as also mentioned, you run the risk of him developing a resistance to Baytril and if your ig *really does* need antibiotics in the future, you're screwed cuz Baytril is the safest for igs ...
: take him OFF the Baytril and find a new vet!
hes gonna get a 2nd opinion but it the 2nd vet says its ok then i will use it if not ill stop use hes gonna need some medication to stop the diarreha the salmonella is causing or he might get worse and dehydrated from the diareeha.its only common sense its not from his diet the diarreha hes feed well 2 times a day and eats like a horse thamk god!! i use disposable plates and his cage is clean he poops in the bath tub then i disnfect the tub. the only way he might have caught it is if he pooped in the water then he drank some of the dirty water thats the only thing i can think of. will keep you posted thanks mike
