Homing Iguana?????

The Wednesday before the long 4th of July weekend, Junior came up missing. I found a suspicious cat-sized hole in the window screen, and since Junior free-roams, guessed he got out that way.

Well, I thought I would never see him again. We live not only on a fairly busy road, but are also surrounded by a variety of 50-100 foot tall trees and of course, it's summer.

Saturday I pulled my car around to the side of the house to wash it and there was Junior, actually scratching at the back basement door!!!! Thoroughly unharmed, toasty warm and looking quite pleased with himself.

Some of my family suggested that he would come back on his own, but he's a wild animal. It's not like he really likes me either.

Is this possible in general, or am I the luckiest iguana mom EVER?

The screen has been repaired and all room screens have been strengthened, BTW. I know he didn't make the hole, because I have found my cousin's cat (the DEVIL) in my reptile room before (she broke into one of my tanks and has absconded with one of my desert lizards).
