you bring up an excellent point that we tend to forget to mention when posting about giving meds ...

*yes* there is *always* a danger of aspiration (breathing meds instead of swallowing them)!!! and *yes* aspirating mineral oil (or anything else) can be deadly!

there *are* ways to minimize the dangers ... having the liquid hit the tongue, not the back of the throat ... tipping the ig's head so it's nose points *down*, not up in the air ... taking your time, going very slowly to prevent the ig "air gulping" while you're squirting meds in it's mouth ... etc

the prob with herp medicine is: there just isn't as much research/info for herp meds as there is for mammals ... we're a bit more restricted as far as what we *know* we can use safely and effectively ... mineral oil isn't absorbed by the body and so that makes it *fairly* safe ...
