Hello, Brad!

That was very kind of you to do what you could to help an iguana, even if you are a snake guy. I've posted this message to a couple of high-colume mailing lists as well as the NIAD forum. Hopefully someone will be able to take in yet another unwanted iguanas. :)

As for what to feed it~Iguanas are herbivors, or vegans, if you will. Animal protein of any kind is detrimental to their health. Feed fresh greens (collards, mustard greens, turnip greens, dandelion greens, endive, escarole) and winter squashes (butternut, kaboucha or spaghetti squash), and occasionally fruits like raspberries, blackberries, mango and papaya. I've hyperlinked a page below that will be of much help should you choose to check it out.

Good luck!
Best,
Jamie/JBug

: Hello everyone! To make a long story short, I was at my local herp shop getting snake chow. A guy walks in with a cardboard box with an Iguana inside (approx. 11/2 feet). He claimed he caught it in his backyard and wanted to get rid of it before it died. The owner of the store didn't have the room, or just plain didn't want another Iguana. Well, the guy said he'd been at every herp shop in the Valley and didn't know what to do. He told me he was going to release it in his backyard again. He just didn't want the thing and was giving it away free.
: I'm a snake guy, I always have and most likely always will. The thought of this thing being released and subsequently dying was too much...even for me. I told the guy I'd take him and find a home, after all, it's free. I could use a lil help here. Until I find a home, what does the lil bugger eat? What does he need as essentials? Also, if anyone lives in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, I'd be more than willing to meet someone to give them a free Iguana. I'd appreciate any help anyone could give me. I just don't want him to die.
: Thank you,
: Brad
