We have an iguana (Harry) who's previous owners fed him real cheese as a main diet. I can tell you this, after blood work was done on Harry, we took him completely off protein...(animal and Veggie) for the next 4 months. His protein level was super high, so we decided to leave protein out of his diet. After four months, we slowly added veggie protein only.
Take this note to heart.....don't fall for feeling sorry for your iguana, when it acts like it's going to die unless it gets some cheese; because if you give in, you will be helping to end his life sooner than he would have to. Protein can cut an iguana's life in at least half, if fed animal protein. Which is better....given in or not? The choice is left up to you, if YOU are the one who will be supplying him with his food.
Best wishes on the right choice.
