Sounds like your describing the neodymium lights sold ...the expensive reptile lights no different than a regular household bulb except they omit the yellow color index from the spectrum. I wouldn't waste my time or energy coloring an incandescant household bulb to achieve the same effect. The problem I figure is that majority of cage builders ...have their basking bulb directly over the heads of iguanas. They imo should be offset...directly over space not our igs. Reason being I think we cook our igs that way....frayed , discolored spike tips, more difficult sheds, eye damage like you described. Just as many reptile burns occur because of lighting poorly situated or accessible as with hot rocks. Adam Britton has some interesting pix of his badly injured iguana when left in the care of someone with bad lighting and access to hot plumbing pipes at his site...Wongs Green Haven really really sad!
