Map turtles don't have the heavy scales on their legs. They do have a low flattened carapace with a somewhat sawtoothed keel. Pattern on head and legs are yellow on a green background and look like the lines on a topographical map and more of a skin than scales.
I can't identify it though. It appears as though it might be a terrestrial turtle and from my field guides I can't find anything remotely similar with that yellow chin and under neck. Would it be possible to post or send me a pic of the carapace?
Sure is cute...what a smile. LOL
: Maynard is a map turtle we think. Can anyone confirm this for us? He was found on the road and brought to Steph's store and, of course, she had to bring him home. He is an awesome turtle, just exploring everything.
