Sterile potting soil???? OK to use?

I remember someone posted that their IG had sterile potting soil in the cage
and she loved to dig, kept humidity good, and easy to scoop out if soiled? Is this
a bad idea? I don't think my ig would eat it, might taste, but if he don't like it then
I can't see him eating it. Don't females have to have it when its time to lay eggs?
Any ideas, pros and cons? Thanks.
