This is my sweet little one Po(short for Potentia) 2 days post egging. She is doing fine altho not eating as well as I'd like, but she is being picky. I have to share her story because this little animal never ceases to amaze and amuse me. Po was my first official rescue, where someone actually called me and said "can you please come get this iguana, she needs help!" That was about 1 year ago. When I brought her home the signs and consequences of MBD were all too obvious, as you can see in the picture. She had a poorly healed fracture in her lower leg, a dramatically humped spine(two places-shoulder and hips), curled toes and a severely bowed forearm. Nevertheless, she was a total charmer and I grew to love her dearly. She is the most animated, expressive iguana I have ever had here. Last August I left her home while we went to the Herp show in Orlando. While there I called home to check on my son and he told me that the little iguana had laid 17 eggs. Well, I was shocked, didn't even guess that she had been gravid! She's always had kind of a pot belly and she was eating pretty well when we left. When we arrived home she was a little thin but looked terrific otherwise. She's had a healthy year since except for a couple months ago when Ziggy got a little rough with her and she ended up with a fractured elbow. Keeping that little one inactive was a real chore but we somehow managed and she healed well. While she was on bed rest, the signs of gravidity became apparent. I upped her calcium intake, got her as much sun as possible in Michigan in May, and hoped for the best. Well, the rest of the story you all know already.......27 eggs total, laid in an empty dresser drawer. Anyway, I was just loving her up some tonight after her bath, and realized again what a totally courageous, strong-willed, amazing little thing she is, and had to share. Hope no one minds........and if you do, too bad. She has touched my heart in a special way and deserves the recognition. Now, could I please have a tissue?
