lots of time + lots of patience + a daily schedule do wonders! move slow, talk softly, don't sneak up on him, don't loom over him ... wear long sleeves + try not to flinch if/when he lunges at you! if he makes you 'go away' once, you've just taught him how to get rid of you ...
you need to take a fecal sample to the vet + have it checked for parasites ASAP ... specifically worms ... igs have worms until treated (same as kittens/puppies) ... (you can't rid igs of salmonella, don't try!)
a little eating/shedding machine huh??????? sounds like you're off to a good start!
