The thought of killing off the beneficial gut flora as well as the malevolent ones has crossed my mind more than once, too. I figure that walking that tight-rope with a hind-gut fermenter might be a little too thin of a line for me to want to mess with. I'm thinking more now about occasional dosages for animals that are fighting an infection or some sort. And then following up with a boost for the gut flora, perhaps. Echinacea and goldenseal have also been brought to my attention as system cleansers and immune system boosters. But, unfortunely, little is actually known about their effect on humans, and I sincerely doubt anything much at all is known about effects on reptiles. And probably won't be for some time. What sort of toxicity levels does echinacea and/or goldenseal have? Also, another thought here; I've been mulling over in my head the idea of system cleansers used on iguanas suffering from kidney damage. I'm almost sure that there is some herb of some kind that specifically targets the kidneys for cleansing. Anyway, I think that's enough musing for the moment. I do find this idea terribly intriguing, though. Glad to see some other interest!
Best,
Jamie
