Glenda,your kids can eat all of the plants,,but the flowers should be more of a treat.The leafs have a good cal to phos ratio.We have as you know,,,30bushes now all pestiside and chemical free.They're about the only plant I can grow.They're drought resistant and we use lady bugs to keep aphids and bugs off of them.
If you want a bushy plant,,,prune above a new leaf and that will cause a new stem to start.If you want it to get bushy below a certain point,,,trim below a new sprout.The flowers last for about a day or 3,they close up at nite and re open during the day.It's easy to start your own plants,,,just cut a branch off,,,skin the bark off about two inches and stick it in soil.Water daily for the first two weeks,,then every other day for a week or two and then once a week.I don't remember the true names of our hibiscus,if you remember,I renamed them for all our kids.
