Pet $tore vs. Foster Program

Here we go again! There is a local pet store here that takes in, usally free or a *very* small price, unwanted reptiles and sells them for ridiculously high prices. The snakes seem to go out fairly quickly, but unfortunately ya never know how long the igs will sit in there. So the one whose been sitting in one of the dog kennels, along side the barking dogs, for the last five days was obviously someone's pet before it made its way to the store. It always breaks my heart to see this and I went around each day to hold him for a while, hoping a nice perspective would come in and give him a good home. I couldn't take him myself, I have 3 igs, and I don't want to buy any anyway when there are so many needing adoption. When I went around there yesterday, he'd pulled out a claw and it took a very long time to get him to stop bleeding. I went around today because the owner of the store was to be there and I expressed my concern. Well she was very non-chalant as always, as she sees nothing but $$$$$$! Well I couldn't stand it anymore, so I got her down to $75 on the price from $100, hoping to adopt him out to a good home. Unfortunately I have to ask for the money for it as well, as I can't afford to buy animals just to give them away. I am working with someone who is interested and I think this guy will get the good home he deserves.

Tho I can go on and on, what I really wanna know is how I go about letting people know that I want to foster their unwanted reptiles until I can get them a good home rather than have them take them to the "pet" store where they won't even get proper care? I know that this particular store does not pay for the animals she takes in, so there are obviously people wanting to just give their reptiles away, for whatever reason. I never happen to be at the store when they are bringing them in, so I can't intercede on the spot. I would like to think that at least some people giving these animals away would rather go thru a "foster" program if they knew of it, rather than the "pet" store route, especially if they knew of *that*! Suggestions, comments, recommendations, anyone?
