chances are, the ig had been sick for some time + just didn't let anyone know ... igs are very good at pretending there's nothing wrong with them until they're at death's door ... literally ... very probably, he was too far gone to have done anything, right *or* wrong ...

the only way to tell for sure, or at least get a better idea, is to have a necropsy done ...
