Eggs

I came home today and found 17 eggs on the bottom of the cage.
Three months I kept a male iquana for a friend as a favor for 2 weeks, they where in the same cage.
I put the eggs in a bed of damp sphagnum moss (or is there a better medium?), the question is (how or at what point) do I know if they are furtile.
