The *massive* worrywart in me felt compelled to make a clarification on the outside cage.
This should be *screened*, hardware screening, etc. NOT GLASS...I repeat, NOT GLASS! The glass enclosure heats up so quickly from sunshine that before you can say *dead ig*, you've got one.
If your iguana is still small, a good & safe method to use as a cage is a bird cage. Just make sure that the bars ARE close enuf together that Houdini can't slip thru.
And as pointed out, SUPERVISE! A cage arrangement should have a part of it that is in shade. Even so, supervise! If he starts to gape, mist him down quickly and take him in is my advice. Whereas I agree that they can't get too much sun---they CAN get too much heat.
BTW if you can safely open the window and let sun pass thru the screen, he will get UVB but probably not as much as truly outside. Ummm, then again there's the worry about the screen getting pushed and out flies baby. *grin* I seem to recall tell of one that fell out from 3 stories up. Made it but this is really risky if you are above the first floor.
Happy Sunning!
