Spike question

When my iguana use to get lose in my room he would run into things and get cuts on his spikes (where it starts growing) and a scab would form. After the scab formed, they easily fell off when I wrapped a towel around him (and when he struggled with the towel around him). Currently he has 8 spikes missing from his back, and its starting to look really bad. Approximently how long would it take for them to regrow? He is 5 years old.
