There's a new Q in town... (long, as usual)

Posted by TQ on May 04, 2000 at 12:28:45:

While I still mourn the loss of my beloved Q, I couldn't stand
the iglessness of my house after his death. I never realized
how much stuff Q had until he was gone. I think iguanas must
be the packrats of the pet world. It was so depressing seeing Q's
indoor enclosure, his window seats, his climbing areas, his outdoor
enclosure all empty. My kitchen was full of his special foods and
medical supplies, and I had a whole cabinet devoted to his lights,
CHEs, etc. I decided I either had to remove everything, or bring
another iguana into my home.

Luckily for me, Ann-Elizabeth Nash and Colorado Reptile Rescue
are just up the highway. I visited her wonderful rescue to donate
all Q's medical stuff and to see how I felt being in the company
of other iguanas: there were 19 in residence.

I came home with an adorable little 6-month-old rescue.

I wanted to name the new little guy (we think he's a boy, but
it's too soon to tell) after my Q, so I've christened him
Max Q (the name of a side-project album of INXS frontman Michael
Hutchence). We're not exactly sure what to call him yet, but
we tend to call him Little Q or QII. We also call him Maximus
Q-us, because he's so tiny.

The little creature is a joy. It's been six years since I've had
a juvenile iguana in the house. I forgot how cute they are. It's
so funny to see the little guy in Q's huge enclosure, but he's
settling in nicely. He's amazingly well socialized for his age,
and he's already eating like a champ.

I feel a little guilty that this has happened so fast. I got the
new Little Q two days before I picked up my Q's ashes. In comparison,
the new guy is so much easier to care for: no force-feedings, no
meds, no special requirements. Amazing how you can be happy and
sad at the same time.

Anyway, I thought I should share some good news for once, sort
of to make up for all my depressing posts of the past couple
of weeks.
