You got alot of homework to do! Even my vet says give my igs some dog food...EVERYTIME he sees my igs...but he's way off base (I love their vet dearly...but still won't do everything he says!)...iguanas are herbivores (ALL plant eaters...more technically they are foliovorous frugivores heehee fancy term for leaf & fruit eaters) Dog food is meant for carnivores so thats why its a no-no and will likely kill your ig if fed for a few years. Its loaded with purines (very tuff on an igs kidneys...they just aren't designed to handle it!. Go to the sites that have been recommended then also check out Paul Huangs site on ectoparasites (link below)...Nix head lice treatment for humans has been found to be very effective in ridding mites in reptiles. It MUST be diluted. Get it at any major drug store. It is a permethrin base product ...muc more effective than pyrethrin products and much less toxic. Pyrethrin products have been used to kill mites reptile, avian in the past...but thats old news. The sites recommended basically say to use oils etc...a major hassle and no where near as effective as plain ole diluted Nix. Read the article Paul has written very well. If you have any other questions post back and I'll help ya thru it. Mites are nothing to mess around with get rid of em fast!...they are reptile specific and will infect any other reptile you have and they are prolific breeders and night travelors! Skip the gasoline...use bleach & water to disinfect cage & accessor. just as effective and much less toxic. Here ya go...good luck...mites are a major pain!
