Debbie...have a look inside his mouth, gently put firmly (?) pull down on his dewlap...if you see petechai hemorraghes inside...little broken blood vessels dark brown or bloody, maybe even a little crusty looking then its beginning mouth rot...betadine or nolvasan...on a qtip applied every am and pm enough to stop spread. If you do not see any of these things more than likely beginning MBD (prevelant among young igs)...Vitamin C won't correct it...but lots of sun exposure and upping his calcium will help. Will take a while (months) before you see any improvement and reduction in swelling. You can buy Neocalglucon (Maders recommends 1 ml or cc per 2.2 lbs of iguana twice a day) at the drug store ...pick up a needleless syringe...that has the increments on it. Calciquid is comparable...may have to have the pharmacist order it. Here is Tricia Powers Iguana Care 101...she has info on stomatitus/mouthrot and also MBD that you can read about. No need to panic..its not an emergency situation....but he'll more than likely need vet attention very soon.
