Although I'm sure all of us are responsible "large reptile" owners, accidents do still sometimes happen. Even if it is the "friendliest 5' iguana in the world." Sometimes it's no fault of the animal and totally unintentional, but, the results are still the same.
Easter morning, my girlfriend was hand feeding fruit to our 5'3" iguana when, through no fault of his own, he accidently and totally unmalicously got the end of her finger as well. He bit it off. When they got her finger cleaned up, they found that it was still there but had only 25% attachment left. They were able to successfully re-attach the end of her finger, but after it heals...what will it look like? One thing is for sure, she will not forget this lesson.
Always expect the unexpected. They are still large and thus dangerous...Even if they don't mean to be.
Getting off of my soapbox,
Vanyul
