Desert iguanas are THE smallest of all. Top lenght is 16" , avg. is 12"/14". They are rather tame, but also shy, so you have to work with them.
they require VERY HIGH temps (up to 113F`!), and space to run about. They are terrestrial, and need not much climbing area.

Spiny tailed igs are the MEDIUM sized: 2'-3'-4' feet, but most are 3'. They are the only igs to be omnivorous, but animal protein is still a small % of diet. They are also the nastiest in temperament, but with hard work, you can tame them. Arboreal, love to climb, need tall cage.

Rock iguanas (cycluras) are the 'bulldogs' of igs, size and appearance wise. they are also the longest living, 25/30 + years, and even more!
But, they are rare, a bit expensive, and in some parts, require permits. Terrestrial, need BIG cage.

Green (Common) Iguanas are the longest (5'/6'+), most common to find around, the cheapest, the most on care info., the harder to house properly, and often in poor healthy conditions if wild-caught. In ALL REPTILES, captive-bred specimens are a must. Less vet bills, and longer life of animal. Arboreal, tall and big cages are a must.

All iguanas, once tamed and potty-trained, cn be let free-roam the house or a room, once it's "iguana-proofed". All iguanas (except spinytailed)
are 100% vegetarians. No monkey-chow, no dog/cat food. Just veggies, n fruits.

* No, they dont get meaner with age, actually, it should be the opposite. By getting used to you, and being tamed, they become amazing pets. The only problem is breeding season, with males especially, but it's not that bad.

This is probably THE BEST place you could stumble upon for info, tips, and sharing ideas or comments. Everyone is friendly, and always helpful, and sufficiently experienced to give good advices.
Anything else, just post it up!

: can anyone tell me what type or iguana (rhino, rock, green?) stays the smallest and has the best temperment as they mature. i've heard of them becoming mean and hard to deal with as they get older even if they were once sweet and tame. true?
