okay so you think ditch the store bought food
I am scared that if I take him off it he wil stop eating again, it took him a long time for him to eat anything but apples. I just don't wanna see baby wasting away again.
as with pet store advise I believe you!!!
I elected to get info from them then head to our local feed store to get the fencing to make him a cage, with a bed( shelf)
he seems to enjoy it but I am also worried aobut is he getting enuff light I got a big grow lamp above him and a black light ( night light for the baby) it does give off a lot of heat ( baby ducks love it) is that all he needs????
also do you have a list of what he would like to eat and what would be good for him???

: I'd slowly ditch the iguana food as a main food source. You can slowly add fresh greens, fruits, and veggies to the iguana food, while decreasing the iguana food.
: As far as your iguana not liking Veggies vs the iguana food, if you had a child that was eating something sweet all the time and then you said STOP, now start getting this strange tasting stuff....... do you think your child would eat???
: I'm not a firm believer in "iguana food". If anything, I would only suggest using it as a additive.....say 5% of your iguanas diet. My opinion also is that "trust NO ONE in business" they're all out to make a buck! They could be adding stuff to the iguana food, that could make your iguana look great......but in the long run, it could be damaging to it's overall health.
: Times are bad enough with fresh Greens, Fruits and Veggie with all the chemicals the farmers and other producers are using on them.
: Here's an example: in the petstore trade, I would have to estimate in our area, only about 10% of the owners are honest and informative about their products. The rest....anything for a buck!! Like pet stores saying....Oh iguana's make great pets and they're easy to care for too. All you need is: 1- 10 gallon tank, mulch, this hide log, some small driftwood, some plastic plants, a heatrock, this lighthood and a 3 lb. container of iguana food. Total cost: appox. $175.00 - $200.00
: In reality what you have that is usable is: driftwood, plastic plants and maybe the hide log; but they sold you what they wanted to sell you.
: Don't get me wrong here, I understand that being in business you have to make money, but let's be real here, I'd rather see them mark up the iguana 1000% to around $75.00 and then tell "the truth" about them than sell them for $10.00 and bull-chit you. Most people will not spend $75.00 on the spur of the moment as they would on a $10.00 pet. And most people don't focus on the "extra cost for supplies" when spending the $10.00. They're more interested in how much they're spending ON that animal....vs what else they spend on supplies. So they wind up spending close to $200.00 for the setup....just to get a $10.00 iguana. But they wouldn't spend $75.00 for the iguana and then spend an extra 200.00 for the supplies.....that's just too much money!!! GO FIGURE!! You'd have to be a "true herper" to do something like that!
: LOL sorry I got off the subject of canned food, but......it's all in the same handful of "Krap"....and I get so tired of seeing this kind of stuff going on in the pet trade.
