: I'm not sure how it was taken care of before I found it. I discovered tiny red and black bugs in the cage. Went to the pet store and bough something to kill mites. Then the next day I noticed it's toes on it's back feet are falling off. Its feet look like stubs. There is only one toe left on both back feet. What can I do. The poor thing is breaking my heart.
Like Momma said over there, go to your nearest herp vet!
This goes for everyone: When you see a problem with your iguana, don't come to us right away! Go to your vet, then come to us and we'll advise you along the way!
Linda, what sort of substrate are you using? Is it a carpet-like substrate? I stopped using astro-turf when I noticed a fiber wrapped around my iglet's toe and started using paper towels.
Also read Melissa Kaplan's artical on Cleaning, Disinfecting and sterilization.
And I repeat: Go to your vet if you haven't done so already!
May the Iguana be with you!
