Feel free to take a swing at me.....(igmom ducking quickly)......
but I thought the purpose of that alfalfa stuff was to ADD protein to their diet. So why would a person want one that has no protein? Or does the packaging mean it has no added protein to it from a source other than alfalfa?
While I have you here BH.....want to go pondering with me? *grin* Wait, let me get the website for you....Okay got it I think. Take a look at this index cause I'm gonna have questions for you later LOL LOL
A very few of the folks here know this already but most of you don't....On 3/21 I was officially diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. Don't want to have it but the dang numbers don't lie and they ran 3 different tests because of the fact that other than the #'s making it so I haven't had any of the other "normal" symptoms that lead a dr to suspect & test for diabetes.
So now I'm going to be taking 3 Diabetic Education classes during which I will be meeting with a dietician (she better hold on to her hat *grin*). I am currently on NO MEDS just diet and exercise. They'll teach me how to use a glucometer, what the results mean, what to do if they are off (up or down), proper diet, etc. etc. I've jumpstarted the diet part on my own.
From what I've been reading had I been eating what I feed our iguanas I wouldn't have this problem probably ;O)
Read thru this stuff on that index. I found it interesting re watermelon. Whereas we think of it as a good food it really isn't for someone with sugar problems. Which has lead me to PONDER...is it good or bad for our iguanas? Can it be a useful food for them? I was thinking maybe when one is lethargic (too much so for an ig) a bit of watermelon might just be the boost they need. Then again, if you have fed a lot of watermelon to your ig and they are going nuts, it could just be that you have unintentionally "spiked" their sugar level causing it to rise rapidly and fall dramatically.
I'm sure I'll be doing some heavier thinking as I delve more deeply in to this. And I think that index stuff is useful for even those who aren't having sugar level problems. I'm also thinking there may be ways to incorporate it in to our ig's diet for their different needs (good days, bad days, etc.).
BTW I go to my first class April 6th. Wish me luck ;o) Think I can impress the dietitian by talking goitregenics? LMAO
