didn't like to see an important ? like this just hangin' there with no posts! *grin* Lightning had stupid parents her first time in laying as we did not have a computer and knew maybe a fourth of what we know now. Didn't know to give the poor dear something to dig in ;o( But she did okay and didn't keep digging her substrate up after she was done.
Her second time around she prolapsed while laying and had to go for emergency services & spaying ;o(
They are NOT supposed to have maternal instincts and guard but then again I have heard stories to the contrary.
You might try removing it for a day and see if it breaks the cycle. The only caution I would have is if you have any reason to believe she has not laid them all. You could always give it back to her if she continues to dig "at" things even without her box.
Am assuming she's going to the vet to ck to be sure they are all outtathere. Which I think is a wise thing to do given what can happen if they're not.
