OK, here's the deal: Shakai laid her eggs on Sunday the 26th, and laid 38 eggs. I'm about 95% or better positice that she laid them all, she is down to skin and bones, altho she is eating and drinking, and there are no lumps, she's not lethargic and her colors are normal. Ergo, I don't think she's got any more eggs to lay. (She'll have a check up in about 1 week and a half.) The thing is, she's still digging. Now, before you start, yeah I know that's normal for female iguanas to dig for up to a week or so after laying all her eggs. Maybe she's looking for them? I dunno. She didn't dig hardly at all after the laid last year, so I didn't have to deal with this. Now I do.
Here's the actual question: Should I leave her nest box in with her until she's done digging? Or should I take the hest box out and clean it and store it away for next year right now? If she's looking for her eggs, then maybe if I take the box out it'll be outta sight, outta mind. But if she's just engaging in residual, instictive after-laying digging, do you think it would be best to just leave the box in there and let her dig to her heart's content? What I really want her to do is stop digging, rest, eat, drink and relax. I'm not sure she can bring herself to do that if the nest box is in constant sight. What do you all think? Should it stay or should it go? I'm taking a poll and all opinions and thoughts are welcome. Thanks!
Best,
Jamie/JBug
