In Reply to: ok, I"M READY--new and improved IG27 diet,(spoke too soon)HA posted by IG27 on March 22, 2000 at 12:19:24:
Here is what we use. It is a combination of MK's diet and Joan S. diet and a few others. Basically I looked for consistancy in all the diets and choose those foods that matched each. Based on that info and what I have seen here on the forum, this food list seems to work ok.
Basically, the igs get just about the same thing every day, expect every now and then I will put a few new things in - if they like it, I put it in again. If they don't, well, it get eliminated. Also, some igs like foods that others don't, so each lizard get a food dish with basic stuff and then a little bit of what they particularly like.
For instance, one likes bananas, while the others don't. One likes wheat bread, the others don't.
The igs basic diet is: Mixed leafy greens and a chopped up mix of peas, green beans, yellow squash, some other squash and some shredded parsnip or sweet potato. After that, they get whatever variety of stuff that we have on hand that they like.
The mixed leafy greens are in a zip lock bag ( gallon size ) the chopped up veg's are in a plastic container. We fill up the bag and container on the weekends and deplete them during the week.
Since we have to work for a living, this cuts down on the time preparing the stuff and we know that they are getting a good diet.
If you have the time to devote a special diet each day, then more power to you. Igs do like consistancy, so you may want to keep that in mind. Also, the grocery may not always have the variety that you want. Most of our stuff is available year around.
Good luck. CW
PS: on MK's basic salad, forget the alfalfa and brewers yeast - I have yet to find an ig that liked either of those.
