The medical name for Baytril is Enrofloxacin, and it is in the group of drugs known as Fluoroquinolones. The entire group of drugs is regarded as an extremely safe group of drugs. Quoting Mader now..."However, some adverse side effects were noted. Pain and soft tissue swelling on injections of enrofloxacin [Baytril] IM (intramuscular) was noted in... many species...with bruising subsequently developing. This was most pronounced at dosages of at least 6.6 mg/kg. While the auther did not note any [sloughing of skin tissue], it has been reported. Depigmentation was noted within 2 weeks at the sites of more severe local reactions"
Me again: I'm not sure how large his dosage is, but Mader recommends that IM dosages above 5 mg/kg be divided into 2 syringes and given in 2 different sites, deeply injected in the muscle.
If you haven't already done this, I think you might consider writing to Mader himself, via the Vet Q & A in 'Reptiles' magazine and seeing what he has to say about the whole situation and the treatment. You can reach him at
Veterinarian Q&A

You might just gain some valuable insight, as well as a fresh perspective. I have a subscription to the magazine, so if you don't have ready access to the mag, I can watch it for you. It sure would be something to have our very own iZ and his momma in Reptiles, being answered by Mader himself! :)
Hope all this helps somewhat! *HUGS*
Best,
Jamie/Buggie
