iZ has kidney damage from a undetected, untreated, long-term, low-grade bacterial infection ... (*whew*) ...
he was diagnosed last nov. after emergency surgery ... was on Amphojel to lower serum phosphorus for 6 wks and Baytril for 2 wks, 3 days off, + another 10 days on ... has been off all medications since january + done extremely well ... has regained the 4 pounds he lost before surgery ...
a couple weeks ago, he began showing symptoms again ... it's not possible to tell for sure if it's the infection returning or if it's "just" renal symptoms ... we never discovered the cause or site of the initial infection + it is possible that we didn't get rid of it last fall/winter ...
he is currently on Gelusil ... same ingredient as Amphojel (aluminum hydroxide) plus magnesium hydroxide (Milk of Magnesia) to prevent the severe constipation that Ampho alone causes ... will be on Baytril for a week ...
thanks for the input, it *does* help to know that it doesn't seem to be a big bad thing ....
