The problem may be health-related, or the iguana may have dropped its tail as a defensive maneuver if it was frightened (the tail wriggles and keeps the predator busy while the iguana scoots to a hiding place). To avoid fright-drops in the future, gently stroke the iguana's tail to get it used to having its tail touched. Don't ever yank an iguana's tail or trap it between your fingers. I'm not saying that's what happened in this case, though -- if the iguana was calm, the problem's more likely to be health-related.
