: Well...I just received an e-mail regarding this forum and I'm thrilled to be a part of it. To tell you the truth, I'm a little unsure of how these forums work. I have an 8 month old iguana, Floyd. He's approximately a foot and 1/2 in length..but it doesn't seem to me like he's growing much..although all the skin he's shedding right now seems to be a good sign. Maybe I still have "new parent syndrome", but I just never feel like I'm giving him everything he needs. He eats well (better than me at times), even though it took him a while to really start eating. I have him in a 30-gallon tank right now..but that is soon to change. I'm moving in 3 months and my boyfriend and I are then going to build him an "iguana paradise". He's got a heat lamp and a Vita-lite. I handle him daily, and as soon as the weather warms up I can't wait to take him out so he can get the "real thing". I would love to let him roam the apartment..but it's just not iguana-proofed. Every time I let him wander..he finds his way under the heating vents that run the length of the room. He's also very aggresive when I approach him to turn off his lights at night.
: I don't really know what particular advice I'm looking for...but I just wanna be a good "Mommy".
hi first thing buy a good book on iguanas they are pretty cheap . second get a timer and plug your daylights into it set the timer to go on when the sun comes up and sun goes down at ight . then get another timer and plug your nightlight into it set it to come on when the daylights go off and daylights come on in the morning its easier for you trust me in case youre not home on time or something comes up . you can let him free roam in like a small bathroom while watching him close the door and let him walk around the bathroom floor keep toilet seat closed. make sure you sprinkle reptile vitamins on his food everyday everyday. feed stuff like kale collardgreens escarole mustardgreens fresh parsley bananas melon pear watermelon cantaloupe tomatoe celery frozen mixed vegtables defrosted blueberries strawberries pes carrots corn plain pasta plain white rice for protein the white of a hardboiled egg or scrambled egg mixed with his greens 1 time a week only. dont forget the reptile vitamins its very important dont feed iceberg lettuce its no good for them. good luck
