#1) is it healthy? (petstore-bought are horribly in bad shape with parasites, etc.)

#2) was it previously owned? often iguans with bad pre-owned experience carry on the stress they suffered, and act bitchy with anyone.

#3) are the two iguanas in the same room? (your own and the new one). territorial hostility is another facto to notivce.

Ok, so your new ig hates your guts, it stinks, but dont worry. To start, you should be thankful that he's only 2 ft, and therefore not too big to really kick you @$$! Try to associate yourself with something pleasant for him. Give him treats, be gentle, patient, smooth in movements, and willing to lose some blood (careful of SALMONELLA!). Because he's so stressed with you around, you should take things slowly. Do not be present while feeding, and do not interact with him too long. Eventually he'll figure out that you're not a negative presence, and you two should get along. Be patient tohugh, things do not happen overnight, especially with a "teen-age" iguana. Babies are easier, and adults are suicide! :) A shirt of yours left in the cage (after some progress and acclimation) will help him recognize you by the smell, sensing no danger.
Anymore q's, just post'em up, you've come to the right place!
Good luck!

: i recently purchased a two foot iguana from a petstore. in all my experiance with iguanas, (having my own and working in a petstore), I have never seen such hostility. he whips and hisses at me for starters. i figured with the proper amount of handling, he would relex a little. but it's gotten to a point where he won't eat if i'm in the same room as him, or sleep if i make any movement. any advice would be appreciated.
