iZ got burned last fall (bad set-up at the vet/hospital ... *sigh*) ... just from that experience, i would be pretty sure that if it was a 'new' burn, it would *hurt* and Mr. iG would *not* want you to touch it at all, esp not to rub antibiotic ointment on it ... their bodies detect heat differently than ours (i think that's it) but once they *are* burned or otherwise injured, they *do* have enough nerve endings on their skin that it *will* hurt them, they will try to prevent you from touching it, etc ...

as far as how a new burn looks ... hmmmm ... that would vary so much depending on how severe the burn is ... with iZ, i noticed a "weird" spot on his side the morning after he came home from the hospital but had no clue as to *what* it was ... the 2nd day it started looking kinda 'crusty' but still wasn't obvious (to me) ... by the 3rd day tho, it *looked* burned, almost charred + the light finally went on in my head ... DUH ...

old burns ... same thing, the scars will vary depending on how severe the burn was ... when i met iZ, he had a scar on his leg from a cigarette burn ... sickening, i know ... that's why he lives with me now ... anyway ... that area has healed up and actually has scales, tho they're white instead of 'leg colored' ... the scars on his back tho, i think were alot worse + i don't think the scales will regrow there ... but ... some of the skin *is* changing colors to match the rest of him ... some of it i'm afraid it gonna stay this awful *pink* color ...

don't know if this rambling helps or not ... it's one of those things that there's not a black/white answer to give on-line ... anti-biotic or aloe won't hurt while you're figuring it out tho ...

best wishes!!!!
