As you probably already know, iguanas have a third eye on their heads, that is used only to detect light
intensity. when you turn off the lights, the room is suddenly dark, and that makes him freak out!
to igs, detecting shadows on that eye is like detecting danger.
He connected your action to something negative.
you may want to gradually dim the lights, then turn 'em off.
it'll be easier on him.
just wanted to share that thought!
:)
: Well...I just received an e-mail regarding this forum and I'm thrilled to be a part of it. To tell you the truth, I'm a little unsure of how these forums work. I have an 8 month old iguana, Floyd. He's approximately a foot and 1/2 in length..but it doesn't seem to me like he's growing much..although all the skin he's shedding right now seems to be a good sign. Maybe I still have "new parent syndrome", but I just never feel like I'm giving him everything he needs. He eats well (better than me at times), even though it took him a while to really start eating. I have him in a 30-gallon tank right now..but that is soon to change. I'm moving in 3 months and my boyfriend and I are then going to build him an "iguana paradise". He's got a heat lamp and a Vita-lite. I handle him daily, and as soon as the weather warms up I can't wait to take him out so he can get the "real thing". I would love to let him roam the apartment..but it's just not iguana-proofed. Every time I let him wander..he finds his way under the heating vents that run the length of the room. He's also very aggresive when I approach him to turn off his lights at night.
: I don't really know what particular advice I'm looking for...but I just wanna be a good "Mommy".
