I try petting my ig on the head, but he always tries to duck away. I guess not all iguanas like being pet. I find that letting my ig climb all over me helps him to calm down. After a while, I just pick him up off my shoulder, head, etc, and go from there. So, you just have to experiment and see what works for your iguana. Just like people, each one is different.
