First I want to welcome you to this forum. Everyone here on this board has held my hand through just about everything. Even though I read everything I could get ahold of before getting an ig, I still posted panicy things over all sorts of things. No one here was ever mean about answering me, even though they might have been giggling.

Now my experience with cats and igs. At the time of this story I had 3 cats. When we got our first ig, a little baby, we had built a cage inside a closet. It had a temporary lid on the cage until the ig got bigger. The cats weren't allowed in that bedroom and the door was always closed. It was in one of the kids' bedrooms. Even it a cat got in we didn't think there was anyway for it to get in the cage. Seems everything was pretty covered right...wrong. Our daughter went to spend the weekend with one of her friends, one of us when shutting the door that night didn't shut it tight and the latch didn't click. During the night the cats were able to push open the door. Then they colapsed the wire on the cage top with their combined weight and proceeded to use our poor little Merlin as a toy to bat around. When I found him in the morning he was alive but in shock to put it mildly. There were calls to the vet, instructions followed, nothing helped. He died that day in my hands. I can't remember the last time I cried that hard knowing that it was our fault. This story is not easy for me to retell. I still think about Merlin. The cats just did what they do best, be predators. Save yourself the grief, make sure those cats have no access to your little ig. Even if they show no interest right now.

Make sure that cage is cat proof and you could park a truck on it. Lock your cats in a seperate room when the little guy is out with you. Don't take any chances and you won't live to regret it.
