: We have a baby iguana that the entire family loves. He/she likes to be held, petted and seems to be enjoying life here. I have a problem, though. We have had him/her for several days and his/her tail came off. I am very nervous about this. we do not want to return him even though that is an option under the warrentee. Has anyuone elsehad an iguana that had a tail brake off? What should I do for our iguana Ralph?
I know that this is kind scary but, it's accually very common. First, flush the wound with betadine then applt a triple antibiotic salve or neosporin (what I personnaly use). Reapeat this every day for a week or until it starts to heal over. Do not bandage. If there is any swelling on the stump or discharge take him to an experienced reptile vet immediately. If the tail is going to regenerate (sometimes they don't) it should start growing very quickly. Hope this helps and let me know how he's doing!
