In Reply to: Iguana Den and MK salad, what a debate??? What's up with that!! posted by IG27 on March 03, 2000 at 07:37:08:
i think we've all been where you are right now ... totally confused! (*grin*) both people *seem* to make alot of sense so who do you listen to??? the best thing i can tell you is to read, read, read + decide for yourself ... at this point in time, there doesn't seem to be alot about ig nutrition that is actually 'written in stone' ... with the probable exception that i think we all agree on the "no animal protein" aspect ...
as far as "so what do i do now?" ... what i did in the beginning was to find the common ground between the 2 ... i think everyone agrees on collards + mustard greens ... ? ... use that as the main salad ingredient and rotate everything else ... read alot! if someone has a negative opinon on a certain food, i'd rather err on the side of caution + i don't feed that food real often, if at all ... iZ *loves* broccoli but there's also a question if it's *real* healthy for him so he only gets it every 3rd week ... chard isn't another food in question ... iZ doesn't really like it + since there's a difference of opinion on it, i just don't feed it to him ... it's all a compromise thing really ... if it's not outright *toxic*, used in moderation, it's prob'ly ok ... then the question arises "how often is 'in moderation?'" ...
about this point is when you scream in frustration!!!
*grin*
the USDA site is great for looking up nutritional values of food ... also go back + read old posts here ... BabyHerp's post are *very* informative ... Jen Swofford's site also has diet info which i've found very helpful ... her's is more of an offshoot of MK's ...
still screaming in frustration????? *grin*
read + read more is the best thing i can tell you ...
good luck!

as far as personal opinion ... i'm an MK fan ... i don't follow her salad recipe but i do try to follow her dietary suggestions ... i am, however, slightly prejudiced ... her extensive pages AND her personal help have saved iZ's life not once, but twice ... at least ... so as with everything else, you have to take *my* post with the proverbial grain of salt!
