: Unless you live in Florida or California and your Igs can bask in natural sunlight throughout the Year, you NEED D3 supplement.
** Does that mean ORAL Vitamin D3 is a substitute for uvb exposure if I live in a state other than Cal or Florida? OR does that mean I may have to have my igs out a little longer to reap the benefits of the same uvb since I don't live in Cali or Florida?
But quite some things ARE known about recommended dosages for igs: 50iU per week and kg animal are recommended...up to 500 in general have no detrimental effects. But never use more!!!!
***Ingo where have you gotten this info? I have been looking everywhere (almost) for info on the dietary/nutritional needs of GGIs...I have found that the Vitamin D RDAs for humans is undergoing some changes in the past two years and prolly be that way for some time to come (an example below), I think D is just too difficult to set a "standard" dosage for myself and ...when in doubt...LEAVE IT OUT!! may be a motto we or rather our lizards ....can live with!

AI=adequate intake /daily
The National Institute of Medicine has now established the following AIs for vitamin D:
200 IU for adults from age 20 to 50
400 IU for those between 50 and 70
600 IU for those over 70 years of age
However, a study reported in the 19 March 1998 issue of The New England Journal of Medicine indicates that perhaps all adults should receive 800 - 1000 IU (20 to 25 µg) of vitamin D per day.
