:A lot of field studies HAVE been done on green igs and hundreds of belly contents have been analyzed. The outcome was that all igs, even the smallest babies, are strictly folivorous. In individual igs only very few different food matters were found but taken together, the igs had eaten a great variety of mainly tree foliage. Only some specimens had taken up fruights and very few animal matter was found inside any stomach.
So much is known about their eating behaviour in the wild.
Anyhow, this can not just be transferred 1/1 to feeding in captivity, since we not only donīt have exact the plant species they prefer but also environmental conditions, physical and psychical ones in captivity difer strongly from the situation in the wild. This of course is reflected in altered nutritional needs (in general captive igs move less and have less stress but less sun and less variety. Hence they need even less energy rich food than wild ones but more mineral and vitaminesupplements).
