Window screen standard mesh type aluminum allows up to 95-98 percent uvb to penetrate. The thicker more close knit the mesh the less uvb penetrates, but it is still enough to be beneficial to your ig. Caution as pointed out....that window screen really needs to be secure...igs have been known to climb and lodge themselves in the weirdest places in windows, and even the tinest of holes in the screen given enough force from an ig snout can tear a tiny hole into a bonafide escape hatch. If this window is your igs favorite little spot....and can get good uvb there as well as spend hours of enjoyment watching the goings ons of the 'outside' ....I'd staple vinyl coated hardware cloth on the outside of the window frame....or secure it somehow for 'double protection' at the same time letting lots of uvb IN!
I wouldn't use 'greenhouse glass' no uvb penetration at all (polycarbonate glass tempered & 200xs stronger than regular glass)...just uva (light)!! but I have read that Quartz glass does allow uvb penetration but it is quite costly and has to be special ordered. Have not checked into it myself.
