ok ~ last fall when iZ 1st got sick, he dropped 4.5 pounds in a matter of weeks ... needless to say, he lost *alot* of muscle mass, mostly in his legs + tail (arms are ok) ... doesn't look as bad as jif's pic of her rescue ig *but* .... even tho he's gained 2 pounds back (wow!) his tail looks nice + fat + normal and his 'thighs' are bulking back up nicely, tho slowly, his 'calves' still look really bad ... way too much like jif's pic ... (i linked to it below)

have been worrying about this for quite a while, hoping that his calves would start 'catching-up' soon, but feel it's time to admit there's more going on here ... am really afraid the muscles may be permanently atrophied ... *sigh* ... his legs are still very weak ... my touching his legs/toes didn't used to bother him, but he won't stand for it now ... i tried doing 'range of motion' exercises on him for physical therapy but he will NOT put up with it at all ... the only way to do it would be to wrap him in a towel and do it and am thinking the stress of that would maybe outway the benefits???? am at a loss as to what to do ... he walks short distances pretty well, goes up his ramps with much effort still ... he tried to climb the stairs like he used to the other night ... got 1/2way up and just gave up + lay on the step sideways + his sides just heaved in + out from the effort ...

ok ... i think in my LONG, rambling way is ... can you think of anything else i might try??? do you think trying to do ROM/physical therapy can help? is it worth the stress it's gonna cause (in the beginning at least)???? while i don't think the situation is worsening, it's not improving either ...

(iZ is perched above me, giving me the evil eye as i type ... i think he can read upside down!0 so i'd best quit rambling ...
thanks!

iZ's mom
