In Reply to: Can any problems arise from using kidney beans, as well as other beans, as the primary source of animal protein (as opposed to alfalfa) in an ig's diet? np posted by Thumper on February 21, 2000 at 22:20:37:
Kidney beans...high phosphorus, fat & protein aint that great (protein content of alfalfa isn't that great either! besides all that ....the purine and phytate content of em has alot to be desired! As an addition once in a while to your igs salad surely won't harm your ig but there are so many other foods to give that are yummy and better for iggie than legumes. Here's a link to USDA Nutrient Database...investigate foods you'd like to give your ig just pay particular attention to calcium:phosphorus ratios....you want to strive for at least 2xs as much calcium as phosphorus. Everything else...sparingly, in moderation, and offer a variety of foods...we can only TRY and duplicate an igs dietary needs....no one knows for sure
