: One I'm rescuing, friend said he had him about 6 months, says he's really green
: healthy and only been feeding lettuce and vitamin supplements? He has a red light
: and fluroescent light and 10G tank! My ig "Ziggi" has a very neon green underside, but
: the top of him is a brownish green, not bright like I've seen some? Is this normal?
: I don't see any skin problems and he seems to run fine and climb OK. Is this from sore sort
: of neglect from previous owner or maybe from pet store? What gives them the brownish color?
: When I got him, I noticed he had some skin pieces left where he must have just shed, but they
: are gone now!
HI FIRST OF all you need to have a daylight bulb and a flouresent bulb on a timer so the lights can go on automatically and shut off the same way next you should only use the red bulb for nightime only iguanas need this type of lighting or your gonna have health problems. another thing is i started my baby iguana out in a 55 gallon tank and by 1 year old he outgrew his tank so ihad to get him a new cage he is now in a cage 4feet x 5feet high they get real long between 5and6feet long. whatever you do stop and donot feed your iguana anymore iceberg lettuce its no good for them . you want to feed him or her kale collardgeens mustardgreens parslet escarole swisschard squash grrenbeans zucchini sweetpeppers sprouts mixed vegetables can or frozen defrosted celery okra carrot top greens ocassionally apples pears blueberries melons bannaskiwi stawberries plums figs . also ocassionally you can give them the white part of hard boiled eggs also you can buy cream of wheat or farina cereal make it then put it into a bowl in the refrigerator and cool the next day cut it into small chunks and you can mix it with other foods. a good book you should buy is the green iguanas the ultimate owners manual by james hatfield you can buy it from www.bigappleherp.com or www.herpsupplies.com its 3 inches thick and it tells yo everything its the best book i have on iguanas doesnot sound like your friend was taking good care of his iguana thats why he gave it away if you want to take care of your iguana the right way trust me you will make the corrections i told you also keep using the reptile vitamins in his food everyday dood luck do yourself a favor and buy the book you got the iguana for free anyway
